The present report. Sustainable Development Goals

L'informe present - RSC

The current Corporate Social Responsibility Report, corresponding to the 2022 financial year and found on our website rsc.guttmann.com, responds to Corporate Social Responsibility indicators such as those given below:

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

Based on the Global Reporting Initiative model (Core version), the report is adapted to the review of indicators established by the GRI, as well as to the SDGs of the United Nations Global Compact. The working group that produced the document has been made up of people from different areas: care, communication, human resources, general services, the economics and financial department, quality area and management of the foundation. The consultancy firm INGECAL has supervised the most technical and methodological areas of the Institut Guttmann.

The report covers all the activities of the Institut Guttmann in 2022, without limitation of scope in everything related to it.  The identification of material aspects has always been in accordance with the nature of the activity and interest groups. Once again, this year’s report is based on social (people and commitment to the community), economic and environmental frameworks, complying with the indicators established in the GRI model.

United Nations Global Compact: 2030 Agenda

The Institut Guttmann joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2015, and three years later it became a “Signatory Partner” which reaffirms its commitment to the principles and responsible sustainability goals set by the UN.

In this sense, the fundamental goal of the Institut Guttmann is to promote the reduction of social inequalities for people with disabilities with the promotion of “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDG), in particular the SDGs that are directly related to disability and that are most akin to our activity with the goal set out in the 2030 World Agenda.

This report documents the activities carried out in 2022 related to different CSR matters and interrelationships with stakeholders. The document is public and can be found on the Institut Guttmann website. It is also available on the websites of the GRI, the United Nations (Global Compact) and the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan CSR Council).

The Institut Guttmann has identified 6 SDGs in particular, due to their relevance in its activities:

As a Specialised Neurorehabilitation Hospital, the Institut Guttmann is a Spanish and international centre of reference in its specialty. The healthcare activity of the Institut Guttmann is characterised by the achievement of optimal rehabilitation results, compared with other hospitals that share our specialty and always according to international measurement scales.
We also contribute actively, and through our social activity, to the prevention and reduction of traffic accidents, as well as to treating the consequences derived from these accidents.

The Institut Guttmann has been working intensively for over 54 years towards equal rights and equal opportunities for people with disabilities once they finish their hospital stay. To this end, we work closely with associations for people with disabilities. In fact, the institute’s Social and Participation Council, made up of representatives of our main associations and advisory governing body, helps us to promote and carry out relevant projects to encourage empowerment and personal autonomy.

The Guttmann Barcelona project, especially its apartments to promote independent living, Guttmann Barcelona Life, is an initiative that is directly aimed at achieving this objective: making cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. With this initiative, the Fundació Institut Guttmann takes its commitment to people with disabilities one step further, favouring access to an inclusive and accessible home, and to the development of an independent and autonomous life, which in turn respects people’s own lifestyle and decision-making capacity.

The Institut Guttmann enjoys EMAS, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 accreditation, being an example of a health organisation that has incorporated a whole series of measures to help protect the environment, and that also raises awareness amongst the people it deals with of the importance of contributing to mitigating climate change.

The Institut Guttmann also has the following accreditations:

  • Verification of the European registry of ecomanagement and EMAS environmental audit in the Badalona hospital.
  • Building certification of the Badalona Neurorehabilitation Hospital with an Energy Rating B.
  • Building certification of Guttmann Barcelona with an Energy Rating A.
  • BREEAM®ES certification that accredits the standard in sustainable construction in the Guttmann Barcelona building with a classification of 56.30%.

In 2022, it received the “Green Hospital” Category Award from the European Private Hospital Awards for our commitment to continuous improvement with regard to the environment and energy.

The Institut Guttmann Foundation is a solid, reputable institute that is respected for having spent over 54 years working for people and providing an example of responsibility, transparency and good governance. The institute uses an independent firm to audit its accounts annually to guarantee the correct management of its wealth; it operates a policy of information transparency through its Social Report and the Transparency and Good Governance Portal available on the website. Additionally, we are working on the implementation of Legal Compliance in the organisation.

The Institut Guttmann directs its care and research activity to improving international cooperation through access to science, technology and innovation to increase the exchange of knowledge. Likewise, it promotes the development and the transfer, dissemination and diffusion of ecologically sound and sustainable technologies, and an increase in the use of instrumental technologies, in particular information and communication technologies in its rehabilitation processes.

The Institut Guttmann has signed strategic alliances with other hospitals, universities, technology companies and international research centres to promote the exchange of knowledge, experience, technology and financial resources.
Finally, it is part of effective alliances in the areas of public-private cooperation and civil society, taking advantage of the experience and strategies for obtaining resources from partnerships.

During 2022, we have worked resolutely on territorial consolidation through the PONT Programme to guarantee the positioning and visibility of our institute as a reference hospital in Catalonia, by formulating and establishing strategic alliances with other SISCAT centres.
